Robert Weil Kiedricher Gräfenberg Erstes Gewächs 2007 DMG

Parker: The Weil 2007 Kiedricher Grafenberg Riesling Erstes Gewachs – weighing in at almost exactly the same near-14% alcohol as the 2006, but not showing it – evinces aromas of high-toned mint, distilled gentian and purple plum, and lemon oil; displays an uncanny meld of sheer stuffing with animation and lift; and finishes with palate-staining chalk and salt. This amazingly dense and youthfully somewhat austere, but refined and incipiently complex Riesling should be worth following for at least a decade although Weil believes many decades. The quantity of wine selected for Grafenberg Grosses Gewachs this year is the largest in that wine’s history, but Weil felt it was clearly his most promising vintage thus far in this genre.
