Marqués de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 1978

Parker: The 1978 Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial was produced with 75% Tempranillo, 12% Mazuelo, 10% Garnacha and 3% Graciano. It was bottled in September 1998, 20 years after the harvest, with 13% alcohol, 6.3 grams of acidity, 0.9 grams of volatile acidity and a pH of 3.25. It was a very good vintage both in Rioja and at the Ygay estate, with high annual rainfall of 494.5 liters. There was a white in 1978 too. This is fine and elegant in the style of the 1959, younger and with a lively palate. It has notes of wild berries, spices and herbs, with a touch of gunpowder. It has depth and complexity with very fine tannins and an effervescent sensation caused by the acidity. This is a great wine. Drink Date: 2022 - 2035. 97/100
